First and foremost, I consider myself an educator.
I got my start in language education, focusing primarily on teaching adult English. Over the last 17 years, I grew into roles in teacher and quality management, transitioned into online English learning content creation, and branched out into the kids’ education space including early childhood development. Seeing the technology, publishing, and data-collection challenges that come with elearning led me to a primary focus on the foundational technology that enables it. Now I specialize in process and creation of high-quality learning content, and the development of the underlying technology (i.e. CMS and publishing integrations, LRSs, and strategy for implementation of data collection standards like SCORM and xAPI) that enable scalable, personalized, and adaptive learning experiences for students of all ages.
I believe that technology can enhance learning and help educators exceed the previous limits of teaching and learning. I have been fortunate enough to work with large, global companies with offices spanning multiple continents, small to mid-stage startups in Asia, investment groups strategizing for edtech and epublishing acquisitions, and small education groups aiming to grow their online offerings. Working in each of these contexts has allowed me to grow my understanding of how business and technology needs intersect with education. I’ve learned to communicate effectively and cross-train across roles and departments, facilitate conversations between teams and people with different priorities and backgrounds, and manage teams of educators and subject matter experts.
I have expertise in educational needs assessment, curriculum design, CMS design, content creation process design, writer and editor training, content project management, learning data strategy and reporting, competitive reviews, and requirements gathering for product development. I regularly collaborate with educators, software developers, data scientists, product and project managers, sales reps, external clients, and potential partner companies. I love learning new things, and require minimal ramp-up time, even when working in a new context or with new technology. In a management role, I take great pride in developing my team and ensuring overarching business goals are clear and prioritized in daily work and decision making. Finally, I have experience working with people around the world, and can navigate multicultural and multilingual environments thoughtfully and respectfully.
